About Me

"The fear of becoming a 'has-been' keeps some people from becoming anything." - Eric Hoffer

So just who is Tammy Kaufman, also known as Spydersmom? I'm an artist. But I'm also a mountain biker, a writer, a dreamer, a wife, and a "mom" to two rescued furbabies. More than all that, though, I'm really just an ordinary woman with an extraordinary willingness to let my imperfections shine in public. It is my honest belief that our imperfections are what make us all beautiful and wonderfully mysterious.

My artwork is my vision of that beautiful imperfection, and the joy of being a singular unique thread in the marvelous tapestry of the universe. I love vibrant colors and texture, and paint primarily with soft pastels, although I enjoy almost all artistic media including oil pastels, acrylics, watercolors, inks, charcoals, colored pencils, graphite and even markers. Landscapes and animals are my favorite subjects as I never cease to be inspired by nature, drawing inspiration from the amazing world all around us. Pablo Picasso best summed up my feelings about art when he remarked that "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."

My devoted husband, Steve, as well as all the animals and friends who have been, and continue to be, a part of my life hold my eternal gratitude for their patience, love and encouragement to follow my dreams and live a life that I would never have imagined possible.

"Do you know, in 900 years of time and space, I've never met anyone who wasn't important." ~ Dr. Who

My ultimate goal in life is to be as good a person as my dog, Spyder, always believed I was. He was not only my dog and my buddy, but was also the namesake of my website and the reason behind my deep passion for animal advocacy. One look into his trusting eyes, and I understood the great responsibility we humans have to protect and care for the animals who share this earth with us. I said goodbye to my precious Spyder just after midnight on October 30, 2010 when he lost his battle with bone cancer, so this site is dedicated in his loving memory. His pawprints are forever on my heart.
